A well put post on Town Hall Matters says, of engagement and the public sector: Satisfaction from participation comes from feeling that you have effected change on an issue about which you care. So perhaps what we need more than e-petitions, citizen juries and the like, is a shift in mindset in public institutions – a readiness to admit mistakes and to act on feedback; receptivity rather than engagement. This point is spot on: engagement has to be a two-way process between an institution and the public.

The creator of the World Wide Web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, has admitted that the double slash we see in every website address was a mistake , and that if he could go back and change things, it would be to remove this oblique double punctuation. The British scientist according to the BBC News says that the double forward-slash is “pretty pointless”, with: “[t]yping in // has just resulted in people overusing their index fingers, wasting time and using more paper”.

admin on October 14th, 2009 (1 votes, average: 4 out of 5) The site used to be a TGP a long time ago and now turned into a tube. Actually, a good one if you avoid some additional “features” like online dating which are not free. The ads on the video pages sometimes look a little like navigation, but I don’t want to complain too much, the experienced surfer doesn’t get fooled The site itself looks clean, navigation is self explaining and what I really enjoyed is the voting feature which instantly let’s you check if a video is worth watching or not.

Basically, the file is a .tpl file and its content must not be changed as that will affect the entire site. All I need is a good header and footer. You can have a generic image for the logo, but I should be able to easily replace it with my own. The text should simply be: My Company Webiste. (Provide me with the PSD file so that I can change with my company name.).

I went to a workshop a while ago under the title of Teaching During Budgetary Crises. Among the topics covered were alternative teaching methods and free or inexpensive methods of interacting with your students other than traditional the 50 minute lecture. We were given a list of a variety of web 2.0 platforms and suggested ways to use them in a classroom setting. The workshop participants spanned a variety of departments across the university, so as I glance through the list, I can see how some platforms would lend themselves to use in certain departments, while others might make more sense for the physical sciences.

This afternoon I attended a briefing at MOE HQ on Pupils’ Attainment of Baseline ICT Standards . The highlight of the briefing was the demonstration of the Online Assessment Tool which is task based and automated. Pretty impressive stuff. However what made me a little upset was the glaring absence of Web 2.0 for Primary level Skills areas in the revised standards. Frankly, I was quite puzzled by this first ICT Focus: Pupils will use the Internet for email and searches.

@spam was how twitter initial kept track of those pesky spammers. Now, they launched the official “report spam” feature. To report someone as spam, simple go to their profile and click the “report [usename] for spam” link. This will prevent them from messaging or following you. All reported accounts will get forwarded to Twitter’s officials for review before getting banned. A few people have also written about how to get the “listen to this post” feature working on their own sites. I wrote up a quick tutorial for how you can get audio on your site. You will need a sound recorder. I use Audacity.
